We are an experienced team of technologists and business professionals with many decades of finance and energy experience.
Co-founder & Chief Executive Officer
Phillip’s 10-year career working to solve the energy trilemma has taken him from Seattle to Edinburgh, Dehradun to Abu Dhabi in search of solutions that scale. He co-founded his first start-up in 2009 called SCENE - a social enterprise that accelerates renewable energy and ICT access for communities worldwide. Then in 2012 he was recruited by a commercial law firm to develop and execute >100 MWp of C&I solar PV, wind and small-hydro across the UK and India. At the same time he founded and led the Green Investment Forum, a private dinner club of c-level professionals overseeing a combined >$20bn in green assets.
In 2015 as a PhD candidate at the University of Edinburgh, Phillip collaborated with the UK Green Investment Bank and University of Petroleum & Energy Studies to create REIA - an open source Web app that enables responsible investors to visualize the net impact of a renewable energy portfolio. In 2016, Phillip was invited to join the Open Data Institute accelerator in London where he built and led a team of data scientists and engineers to create the world’s largest database of renewable energy assets.
Phillip is now jointly leading the effort at ENIAN to harness big data and machine learning to achieve the audacious goal of making renewable energy investable in 3 clicks. When he’s not executing ENIAN’s vision or playing chess, he enjoys time exploring the North Cascades, Scottish Highlands and Himalayan valleys.
Co-founder & Chief Operations Officer
Varun has been dedicated to delivering sustainable energy for all throughout the majority of his 8-year career in energy finance and tech. Having experienced the painful inefficiencies of data validation and modelling as a natural resources analyst at a major international investment bank, Varun grew passionate about working towards solutions that empower knowledge workers using automation. At ENIAN he leads the effort to build out the technology stack, including devops, recruitment and fundraising strategy.
Prior to joining ENIAN in early 2018, Varun achieved success in two previous startup companies. He was the second employee at BBOXX, an off-grid solar utility provider, where helped grow the business from a startup to >500 employees across 7 countries with revenue increase of 15x in 4 years. Since it’s early days in 2010 as an Imperial College London spin-out, BBOXX has gone on to expand to over 10 countries and raise over $100m in equity and debt.
Varun also served as a product manager and strategic adviser in 2017-18 for Pathfinder Commerce a marketing automation company which went on to successfully raise a Seed Investment round from a top tier London VC. Varun holds a Master’s degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from Imperial College London. When he’s not executing ENIAN’s vision, he is active in both the Linux and OpenStack community forums and meetups.
Guy has over 25 years’ experience investing in sustainable businesses. In 2006 he joined New Energy Finance where he helped build the business through to the sale to Bloomberg in 2009, and continued as Head of Commodities and Chief Economist. He is a visiting Research Associate at the Smith school of Business and Environment at Oxford University.

Jacob holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London where in 2016 he collaborated with BP to develop machine learning algorithms to automate pipeline inspections - software that is now used by BP to process thousands of inspection signals per month. Prior to that as a member of the solar research team for CSIRO Jacob developed mathematical models for predicting solar output under diverse climatic conditions.
